Hey, been following your blog for several monthes now, and been enjoying it very much.
However, where does one find an English version of the L’Art de la Guerre rule set?
I’d really give it a try with my friends.

Hello Richard!
Glad you liked the blog. I can recommend North Star here in the UK. The rules are twenty seven pounds but the great thing is that they contain all the army lists so you don’t have to buy any extra supplements. You really won’t regret the investment! Don’t forget to let me know how you get on.
All the very best

I’m sure you’ve played ‘Lion Rampant’ or ‘Sowrd & Spear’ before. If you did, how do they compare to L’Art de la Guerre?

Lion Rampant is more like a skirmish that the full battle of ADLG. Sword and Spear put me in mind of the old Risk boardgame mechanism of highest combat dice beating opponents dice. ADLG certainly wins hands down in terms of clarity and the number of people playing it .
Hope this helps

So, my copy of L’Art de la Guerre finally arrived. I like it so far.
However, I’m surprised about it’s binding.
It’s just a flimsy softcover, and I’m worried that the pages will fall out at any moment.
It this the standard binding for it or did I get a cheaper copy?
If you guys have the same, how did it hold up for you?
Thanks.

So last year I’ve tried to introduce my group to ADLG but faild. Now that the game has risen in popularoty my group wants to give it a try.
We’re using mostly 28/25mm miniatures.
What should be the base size for units and how much would 1UD be for them?
Thanks

Hello Richard
Most of our lot are using DBx bases, 60mm wide. A few of us have jumped in and use 60mm squares. The rulebook has an option to use 80mm squares but I have yet to see this, maybe it’s a French thing. The great thing is that you can vary the number of minis per base within reason.
Great to hear of the interest, where do your group play btw?

Thanks. I guess I’ll have to make some extra figures and base them on 20mm bases so that I can put them with the HC 40mm squares onto a 60mm base whenever I play someone outside our group. I’m sure you know how hard it can be to make some of the older folks rebase their army, let alone try something new – no offence to the older folks here 😉
Our group is in Oklahoma City, but most of us play Bolt Action, Hail Caesar, or Pike & Shotte for 28mm.
Some also play DBx but in 10/15mm, as far as I know.
I hope that we can get ADLG going, as I’ve heard a lot of folks liking it better than HC or DBx, a lot better.

Hi Richard
Sabots are good for using those 40mm squares. Rebasing is a chore, I do like the scope for modelling with the larger bases though!

Hello,
There are a few locals who have 15mm Naps, I can hook you up with some of the Penarth players. I love the Blucher rules and most recently Lassalle. Have you visited Firestorm games yet? I’m on Facebook if that’s easier terciodespertaferres

Hi Mike,
thanks for the reply. I went to firestorm this evening and had a nice talk with Ross :)
I have the Lassalle rulebook too but never played it before. ( Actually I ve never really played any historical games since people in my local clubs only play warhammer or warmachine ) I only collect and paint historcial miniatures silently.
At what time will the event on 11th October begin?I will definitly join you guys after university.
Cheers

After university? Three years is too long! Sorry I had to say this terrible joke.
I’ll be there after about half six. You’d be more than welcome. We are playing L’art de la Guerre but we are also planning Longstreet and Blucher games. If you give me a time I’ll meet you at the front Door?

Hi Mike,
I recently found the note you gave me at Milton Keynes (I played the Late Byzantine list with Mongol allies) after thinking I’d lost it forever. Please hit me up with any ADLG events coming up as I’d love to play some more. I finally got a place at Warfare as well.
